4 Tips To Make New Habits Stick

Why is it so hard to stick to new habits? Even with the best intentions, sticking to new behaviours can be tricky. Here are 4 simple steps to set you off on the right foot:

1.     Think Small

Do you ever find yourself trying to overhaul you whole life in one week? Yeah, you’re not alone.

When inspiration and motivation strike, it’s easy to think you can implement multiple behavioural changes all at once.

But, this can be incredibly overwhelming and may just be setting you up for failure in the long run.

The key to building long lasting and sustainable change is to start small. So pick one new habit to implement at a time – not 17.

2.     Get Specific

People often think that they lack the motivation to build new habits, but what they really lack is clarity.

Make your goals crystal clear so you know exactly what you’re working towards.

For example, if your over-arching goal is to get healthier – think about what being healthy looks and feels like for you. Is it eating better? Working out? Cutting out excessive drinking? Going on a short walk?

Getting specific about the changes you want to make in your life helps move you in the right direction.

3.     Make Your Success Inevitable

Make your success inevitable by aligning your habits to YOUR lifestyle. So, if you’re a serial snooze-button hitter, maybe it’s time to rethink the 5.00am workout class you keep signing up for (and inevitably missing…)

4.     Work With A Coach

Working with a coach can (literally) be life changing. While you’re the one in the driver’s seat, a coach can help you get focused and action-oriented.

Our job is to help you understand and visualise your vision for a successful life. Together, we work through the fear, resistance and challenges you may be facing, and build on new strategies and habits to get you where you want to be. We’ll help you track and monitor your progress and help you become accountable towards yourself and your goals.
